If you drive north from the house to Ocean Park there are bookstores, restaurants and gift stores and more beaches to explore. Visit Jack’s Country Store to see this historic yet current meeting place. In Nahcotta you can buy fresh oysters and enjoy the wonderful views of Willapa Bay. On the extreme north end of the Peninsula, the place to see is Leadbetter Point State Park -- it’s a wonderful place for hiking to the beach or to the bay. There’s lots of wildlife to see in our local parks. Keep your eyes open for bald eagles – we see many of them here.

Long Beach is about 7 miles to the south. The downtown is a hub of activity year-round, but especially during the summer months, with the International Kite Festival in August and of course fireworks on Independence Day and New Year’s Eve. There’s great shopping and a variety of restaurants, plus lots of things for the kids to do -- miniature golf, the arcade and carnival rides too.

Just a couple miles south of Long Beach are Ilwaco and Cape Disappointment as well as Waikiki Beach and the North Head lighthouse. There are some great art galleries at the Port of Ilwaco, and during the summer months there’s Saturday Market too, with a variety of local arts and crafts, foods, flowers and plants for sale. You can even see pirates at times. Ilwaco also has its own fireworks in July. The Port also features some fine restaurants with local seafood offerings created by our great chefs. Or take a charter trip for salmon, halibut, tuna or sturgeon.
